Join The Aluminium Rooflight Party

Aluminium Rooflights and Skylights

Alan Robinson, Managing Director of Alumen, the established Schueco and SMART fabricator, gives GGP readers an insight into the company’s new range of aluminium rooflights

As aluminium’s rise as a door and window material continues its resurgence, with some analysts forecasting a doubling of the sector by 2017, associated aluminium home improvement products are growing in tandem. Innovation in design and manufacture has given a boost to sales of patios, bifolds and folding sliding doors in 2015. Now it’s time to look to the skies as aluminium rooflights join the party.

As specialists, Alumen has a deep understanding of the capabilities of aluminium as a building material, which focusses our research and development team to intelligent design and engineering. Driven by an attention to detail and years of experience as aluminium fabricators, our team has managed to engineer-out cost and complexity, and engineer-in great looks, simple installation and fast lead times. And it’s this approach during a six month period of development that has led to the launch of what customers tell us is a truly top quality aluminium rooflight range that offers the trade genuine value for money.

Streamlined Supplier Operations for Downstream Installer Margins

Traditionally more expensive than competing home improvement materials like PVC-U, many home improvement specialists have steered clear of aluminium. But as more fabricators have entered the market, the sector now firmly has its foot in the mainstream, not only in the higher end niche areas. This is where we are targeting the new rooflight range: it’s a product in a box for next day delivery, but it’s a high quality, well-designed aluminium product in a box that we believe represents an easy sell and quick margins for home improvement companies. So how have we managed to engineer out costs to come to market with top quality at such good value for money? IT and operationally lean principles are at our heart. This means we have eliminated unnecessary processes and cut down production times, stock holding and overheads, all costs we can pass on to our customers while maintaining the absolute integrity of the product.

Added Value and Choice

Designed specifically for better aesthetics, smoother operation and representing value for money, trade customers now have the choice of off-the-shelf fixed, manual and electric opening, square and pyramid rooflights in addition to bespoke options including integral lighting, temperature control packs and a variety of glazing options. The range comprises of three distinct families – the Aether, Helios and Olympus brands. Available for next day delivery in a variety of sizes, we can offer customers choice: for a contemporary, clean square shape, Aether is our flat fixed square rooflight consisting a strong square line frame with built-in thermal break and drainage holes to eliminate any frame moisture, glazed edge to edge for minimalist styling and available with walk over option; with the same technical properties as Aether, Helios is our chamfered edge option fixed rooflight and is available as a manual opener or upgradeable to an electric opening with optional weather pack for even more added value. These rooflights provide controllable ventilation as well as modern good looks. Our pyramid option is the Olympus with its internal and external aluminium trim for a clean stylish finish consisting of a strong, weather tight, secure frame at a 45 degree pitch. Fixed, manual or electric opening options are available with internal lighting and the size can be extended into a fully opening larger roof lantern.
